The Phillies are going to try some different options at closer in the season's final week. Brad Lidge blew his 11th save on Wednesday night against the Marlins, as his ERA climbed to 7.48 just one season after he converted every save situation he entered. "Our best [plan] is to have Lidge pitch the ninth," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told the Philadelphia Daily News. "Right now, he hasn't been doing that effectively. And we might have to make an adjustment off of that." Manager Charlie Manuel said Friday that veteran righthander Brett Myers, who spent most of 2007 as the team's closer, would be his first option to fill in for Lidge.
