Yankees closer Mariano Rivera recorded his 1,000th strikeout on Friday night, but two batters later Ichiro Suzuki hit a game-winning home run.

With New York leading 2-1 in Seattle, Rivera came on in the ninth and struck out Jack Hannahan and Mike Carp to reach the milestone.

Then pitch-hitter Mike Sweeney drilled a double with two outs, setting up Ichiro's walk-off bomb.

The Mariners outfielder jumped on Rivera's first pitch, sending it into the right field seats to give Seattle a 3-2 win.

"The ball didn't go where it was supposed to," Rivera said. "It is different with Ichiro. He can do a lot of things. Definitely if you make a mistake, he is going to hurt you."
