Derek Jeter has broken the Yankees? hit record held by Lou Gehrig for more than seven decades. He did it with a single to right field in the third inning on Friday night, as reported by the Associated Press.
That gives Jeter 2,722 hits, one more than Gehrig, whose career was cut short by illness in 1939.
