Carlos Beltran, who has been out since late June with a bone bruise in his right knee, was cleared to resume playing yesterday and will make his first minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday for Single-A Brooklyn.

The Mets hope he can be ready to play for them before the end of the season despite being out of the race.
