Brad Penny and the Giants agreed to a minor league deal Monday night, according to an Associated Press report.

Penny cleared waivers after he was released by the Red Sox last week. Because he reached a deal with San Francisco by August 31, he is eligible for postseason play with the Giants.

Penny is expected to pitch Wednesday against the Phillies.
