Billy Wagner wants the 2010 option on his contract declined if the Mets trade him to the Red Sox.

Wagner wants to be a closer next season.

"I don't want to end my career as a setup man," Wagner told ESPN.com. "I'd like to have that option."

Wagner confirmed Monday that Boston placed a claim on him and that New York is trying to work a deal.
