Cubs manager Lou Piniella told reporters on Friday that he intends to be back next season.

"I'm planning to come back next year," Piniella told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The sale of the Cubs from the Tribune Co. to the Ricketts family was finalized this week and could remove some of the restrictions that have been placed on the team in recent years.

Piniella said that the sale "is good for a lot of people in the organization. We can do some things going forward. But that's been my plan, to come back next year."
