David Wright and Matt Cain met to shake hands on Monday, two days after the Giants pitcher hit the Mets third baseman in the helmet with a fastball.

"He said, 'I understand it was an accident,' "Cain told MLB.com of his conversation with Wright.

Wright had already received calls and text messages from Cain.

"He might have wanted to come in, but he definitely didn't want to throw the ball right through," Wright said during a press conference.
