Athletics pitcher Justin Duchscherer will throw 60 pitches in a rookie-league game on Friday night.

He is working on short rest in hopes that he'll be able to return to the majors in a start against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Duchscherer is recovering from elbow surgery in March, and scouts from the Red Sox and Tigers have been seen at his recent rehab appearances.

The right-hander will be a free agent this winter.
