John Smoltz has cleared waivers, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney.

The Red Sox designated the veteran right-hander for assignment on Friday after a dreadful performance against the rival Yankees.

Smoltz was just 2-5 with an 8.33 ERA for Boston.
