The Red Sox have put in a waiver claim on Nationals shortstop Christian Guzman, according to major league sources.

Guzman, a switch hitter, is hitting .315 for Washington this season.

If Boston is awarded the claim, they would have 48 hours to work out a deal with the Nationals. Washington could also simply allow the Red Sox to have the shortstop, or pull him off waivers entirely.
