The Yankees aren't expected to deal Robinson Cano, but they did place the second baseman on trade waivers Wednesday.

New York also placed pitchers Brian Bruney, David Robertson and Mark Melancon on trade waivers, and the players will become eligible for trades once they clear on Friday.

Cano is hitting .309 and playing great defense, which means it's unlikely that the Yankees will move him.

Teams frequently put many players on waivers they have no intention of parting ways with, simply to sneak other players through.
