The Diamondbacks have a choice in October of exercising Brandon Webb's $8.5-million option for 2010 or paying a $2-million buyout. Arizona could then re-sign Webb at a lower salary, but so could any other major-league team.

A big factor in the decision would be how long it takes for Webb to be pitching again. The lengthier his recovery, the more problematic it is for Arizona to click the option renewal.
