David Ortiz could contend that a dietary supplement triggered his positive test results back in 2003.

Eight of the 104 players that tested positive six years ago received such results because of dietary supplements, not hard-core steroids.

Major League Baseball maintains that 96 players tested positive because of performance-enhancing drugs, but only the government is believed to know who tested positive for what substance.

"Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive," Ortiz said last week. "I will find out what I tested positive for. And based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with my club and the public."
