The New York Yankees optioned infielder Shelley Duncan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Saturday to make room for newly acquired utility man Jerry Hairston Jr.

Duncan was recalled Friday but didn't play.

Hairston, acquired Friday in a trade from the Cincinnati Reds, started in left field Saturday for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox.
