The Mets have fired vice president for player development Tony Bernazard in the wake of recent outbursts.

Omar Minaya announced the decision during a press conference on Monday, which took an odd turn.

Minaya inferred that New York Daily News reporter Adam Rubin wrote stories to try to get Bernazard fired so he could take his job.

Rubin wrote the initial story about Bernazard's tirades, and Minaya claims that the writer has lobbied for a front-office job with the club.

"I don't know how I'm going to cover the team now," Rubin said after telling reporters that he never asked Minaya for a job in baseball.
