Commissioner Bud Selig wants to end minor-league rehab stints for players serving suspensions for performance-enhancing drugs. "I believe that should be changed," Selig said Tuesday. "Their logic was OK - look, guys get hurt, they can go out on rehab, and so on and so forth. But I think that's something we need to really change in the next labor negotiation." This season, Manny Ramirez of the Dodgers and J.C. Romero of the Phillies were allowed to begin rehab assignments before their PED-related suspensions were up. "It [should be] 50 games, and then go do what you've got to do to get back into [shape]," Selig said. The current agreement between the Major League Baseball Players Association and the league expires in December 2011. |
