According to the Wall Street Journal, teams that entered the All-Star break leading their division have made the postseason 69% of time since 1995.

The Wild Card was introduced in 1995.

Clubs trailing by more than 8 1/2 games have made the playoffs just 3.8% of the time over the same time frame.

Entering Tuesday night's action, the Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, Phillies, Cardinals and Dodgers were leading their respective divisions.
