Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that the team's decision to rest Alex Rodriguez against the Marlins was "medical."

Cashman denied a report that Rodriguez, who has been struggling as of late, asked out of the lineup on Friday night.

"That's not true," the GM said. "Dr. [Mark] Lindsay said he would benefit from more than a day [off]. It was a medical decision. The doctor ordered two days. [Joe] Girardi and I are firmly on board."
