Agent Scott Boras believes that pitcher Stephen Strasburg is a different breed of pitcher, and that he deserves more than the usual top pick.

"An extraordinary player receiving a substantial bonus far above other draft picks has happened before ... Obviously Stephen falls into that class of players," Boras said. "They just happen to have that extraordinary ability."

Boras didn't reveal any target numbers, but he is expected to ask Washington to give Strasburg a deal worth several times more than the contract Mark Prior received in 2001.

That deal, the current high mark, was worth $10.5 million.

Boras is already talking about what might happen if the Nationals do not meet his demands. "If that does not happen, you then would look to all the available resources one would have to evaluate what the next step is," he said.
