The Reds used the eighth overall pick on Arizona State pitcher Michael Leake, which shocked the right-hander.

"I wasn't expecting to go that high," Leake told the MLB Network in a phone conversation.

Leake was 13-1 with a 1.35 ERA for the Sun Devils through 14 games in 2009. He led the Pac-10 in victories, strikeouts (116) and innings pitched (106.2).
