The Red Sox put out feelers on Javier Lopez in an attempt to deal the lefty reliever, according to sources. Teams they spoke to wanted the Boston to assume too big a portion of what?s left on his $1.35 million contract without offering much in return.

The Red Sox subequently placed Lopez on waivers and will know by Thursday whether he has cleared and can be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Yankees are widely believed to be considering claiming Lopez.
