The Yankees have promoted pitcher Brett Tomko from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre for Saturday's game at the Orioles.

Tomko, 36, was 1-0 with an 0.64 ERA in 10 appearances at Scranton.

He has primarily been a starter in his career, but signed on for a different role with the Yankees.

"I didn't have a whole lot of opportunities with the team down there," Tomko said on Scranton. "Not that I'm ever going to be a closer, but I thought it would be a good way to get into the heart of the game and pitch when it was on the line."
