Twins catcher Joe Mauer could return to the team next week, perhaps making his season debut by May 1.

Mauer played in a simulated game on Sunday, the final phase in his recovery from a sore sacroiliac joint.

"If it looks like he's ready to head this way, then we will do it," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "If not, we can give him a few more days."
