The Cubs have released pitcher Chad Gaudin to reduce their roster to the 25-man limit prior to Opening Day.

Chicago also optioned Jeff Samardzija to Triple A Iowa.

The moves allowed the Cubs to make spots for Angel Guzman and David Patton in the bullpen.
