The Yankees have yet to play a game this season, but manager Joe Girardi is already believed to be on the hot seat. Girardi watched manager Joe Torre go through a similar situation in 1998 when the Yankees started the season 1-4. "I watched Joe go through it in '98, and I was part of that team so I could do something about it in a sense," Girardi said. "Until you sit in that seat, you're not going to know what it's like. But I've been fired once, so I know what that's like." Given the team's offseason spending spree, Girardi might have more pressure on his shoulders. "I think that's a pretty fair statement," Girardi said. "I'd say my grace period is shorter than it was last year. I'm going to have to answer for our record. Do I think about that? No, but if the situation comes up, I'm going to have to answer for it. I'll cross that bridge if I have to." |
