Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter looked impressive once again on Monday during the team's 6-3 win over the Nationals.

"I thought he was good again," manager Tony La Russa said. "He had everything. Everything is working."

Carpenter has missed a majority of the last two seasons with arm trouble. He finished Monday's game with six strikeouts and threw strikes on 52 of 76 pitches.

"He was throwing good enough that they weren't putting the ball in play early in the count and he has a finishing pitch," pitching coach Dave Duncan said. "He doesn't try to get swings and misses but if he gets an 0-2, 1-2 count, he's going to try to put the guy away, and he's got pitches to do it with."
