The Pirates have sent Tom Gorzelanny, who was one of the team's top starters in 2008, to the minors.

Pittsburgh was unhappy with Gorzelanny's lack of progress after he went 6-9 with a 6.66 ERA, the highest among major league pitchers with 20 or more starts last season.
