Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts has joined Team USA to help fill the void left behind by Dustin Pedroia, who left the team with an injured abdominal this weekend.

Roberts, who was on Team USA's provisional roster, joined the team on Sunday.

"They told me I was pretty much their only option. The choice is yours," said Roberts, admitting that he wasn't even sure if he was on the provisional roster.

"It's a great opportunity and an honor," he added. "I represented our country in 1997 when I was on the USA team in college. I know what it means to put the jersey on. This is obviously a little bigger stage. I'm honored to be here."
