Chris Carpenter threw four scoreless innings against the Red Sox on Thursday as his comeback remains on track.

Carpenter, the Cardinals' oft-injured ace, allowed just two hits over the four innings.

"It was another step forward," said Carpenter, who threw 46 pitches. "I definitely felt like I was locating better with my fastball and I felt like I was in a little better control of my body."
