The FIC is a statistical metric I created in order to take various aspects of offensive play into account. Albert Pujols led the MLB in this category in 2008, while Alex Rodriguez was the leader in 2007. - Matt Wieters just missed the below list and is currently 53rd, as he has a spring OPS of 1.117. - Travis Snider of the Blue Jays is 133rd with an FIC of 10.5. He is hitting 1.175 in 26 at bats. - Cody Random, Alex Rodriguez's apparent fill-in, is 299th with an FIC of 5.6 and OPS of .764. - A few notable hitters that have been struggling: Randy Winn, -9.2 Dan Uggla: -7.35 Joe Crede: -5.5 Felix Pie: -4.4 Jason Giambi: -2.7 Prince Fielder: -1.5 For pitchers, ranking by FIC during Spring Training is almost entirely an experiment in futility due to the weight of wins and losses, which make the results largely arbitrary. Instead, I sorted out all pitchers with at least five innings of work and ranked them according to their SWHIP. SWHIP is a formula I created, which combines WHIP with strikeouts per inning and is one of the surest indicators of success for pitchers. |
