Alex Rodriguez's decision to have hip surgery has fueled speculation that the Yankees are interested in third baseman Mark Teahen.

Both Kansas City and New York officials are brushing aside rumors.

"What I'm hoping," one Royals official said, "is they sign (second baseman Mark) Grudzielanek. That way, we get a (compensatory) draft pick."

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says that the Yankees haven't even considered Teahen.

"We have not had any discussions internally about that," Cashman said.
