Not long after the Yankees said that Alex Rodriguez would attempt to play through a torn labrum in his hip, reports out of New York indicate that he might have surgery sooner.

General manager Brian Cashman said more than once during a conference call on Friday night that "there are no surgeries scheduled" and "there is no surgery scheduled for tomorrow."

However, he also said Rodriguez would remain in Colorado for the indefinite future to consult with a hip specialist and to have tests.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, speaking before Cashman's conference call, sounded less sure.

"I think there is a chance," Girardi said of Rodriguez having surgery. "That's a decision he has to make. It's something Alex has to sort through. You have to start thinking about it as an organization now, if he wasn't here."
