Johan Santana said that he still expects to pitch for the Mets on Opening Day despite reports that his elbow may push his 2009 debut back.

"I'm a professional," Santana said. "I know exactly what I have to do and I'm pretty sure I'll be ready for opening day."

The Mets, however, are approaching the pitcher's left elbow with extreme caution.
