Carlos Carrasco is in the thick of the race to become the fifth starter for the defending-champion Phillies.

"I want to stay here and try to be the fifth starter," Carrasco said. "I think I have a good shot."

Carrasco had an up-and-down stint at double-A Reading last season, recording a 4.32 ERA in 114 2/3 innings.

He's competing with Chan Ho Park, Kyle Kendrick, and J.A. Happ for the position.
