First baseman Mike Jacobs agreed to a one-year, $3.275-million contract with the Royals on Tuesday night.

Jacobs asked for $3.8 million, the Royals offered $2.75 million and the two sides settled on the exact midpoint between the two figures. The deal nullified a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning.
