Jason Bay expected to discuss a possible contract extension with the Red Sox this offseason, but the market for free agents was weak and he'll enter the season without a contract for next year.

"We'll see how that plays out," Bay said. "It doesn't really concern me only because I have other options. It's not like (signing an extension to remain with the Red Sox) is the only thing I have, and that's not saying it wouldn't make sense or it's not something I would consider. It's just not the end-all, be-all right now. If that's the way it is, that's the way it is. But right now I'm not too concerned about any of that stuff.

"The big thing for me is familiarity, and I've enjoyed the fact that I've been here for a little bit and I understand it a little more. It takes out the unknown. I think a lot of people acknowledge it would be a pretty good fit. But until something gets done or doesn't get done, whenever that might be, so be it. But like I said, right now, I'm just kind of worried about this year."
