Phillies manager Charlie Manuel usually waits to name the team's Opening Day starter, but he isn't deliberating this year.
Cole Hamels will start April 5 against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park.
"I don't think there is any sense in me playing games, so you might as well go ahead and pencil him in," Manuel said.
It will be the first Opening Day start for Hamels.
