President Hugo Chavez is urging teams to allow Venezuelan players to represent their country in March's World Baseball Classic.

"They take away the athlete's right and duty ... to represent Venezuela," said Chavez "It's constructive criticism of professional sports."

The Mets might not clear pitcher Johan Santana to take part in the WBC next month.
