David Price is in competition for the fifth slot in the Rays? rotation, and he?s embracing that competition even though he demonstrated last fall how effective he can be against major league hitters.

"You don?t want them to come out and say you have a spot," Price said. ?You want to come in and you want to earn it. You want to earn the respect of everybody that?s in here, and that?s what it?s about. It?s a competition, it?s a challenge, and that makes it more fun, in my eyes.

?Obviously it?d be nice to come in here and be James Shields and know you?ve got a spot. You can come in here and have a 30.00 ERA during spring training and you know you?re going to be rolling out there one of the first two days [of the regular season]. But I?m a new guy and that?s what it?s about. It?s a competition, it?s a challenge. We?re all friends in here, so it makes it fun.?
