Colorado infielder Garrett Atkins is preparing to return to third base this season after covering for teammate Todd Helton at first often in 2008.

"I was told I was the third baseman," Atkins said.

Atkins worked out this offseason with the intent of playing third, focusing on strength and agility, not adding bulk.

"I will be prepared to go back over there because nobody is expecting Todd to play 155 games. I got acclimated to first last year, so it won't be as hard," said Atkins. "But I see myself at third."
