Varitek, Pudge Dealing With Age Issues

Boston Globe - Not long ago, catchers Jason Varitek and Pudge Rodriguez would have been hot commodities on the free agent market.

This offseason, however, they aren't receiving many offers, and some believe it is because of their age.

Rodriguez, 37, and Varitek, 36, both had subpar seasons in 2008.

One of the issues in regard to Varitek is that he's a Type-A free-agent which would require first-round draft pick compensation while Rodriguez is in a better place, a Type-B free-agent. [READ]
