Phillies' Howard, Hamels, Lidge To Skip WBC

ESPN - A trio of Phillies have reportedly declined an offer to play for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

First baseman Ryan Howard and pitchers Cole Hamels and Brad Lidge all told Team USA that they do not want to be considered for the roster.

"[Howard] feels like he needs to spend his time in the spring getting ready for the season so he gets off to a better start," Team USA manager Davey Johnson told the Philadelphia Inquirer. [READ]
