Boston Believed To Lead Teixeira Derby

MLB.com - The Red Sox are believed to be in the lead in the race to sign free-agent slugger Mark Teixeira as the sweepstakes intensifies.

"I think they're in the lead and ahead of where everyone else is right now," an anonymous baseball general manager said. "I'm not sure who's bidding against them at this point."

No team is expected to offer Teixeira the ten years he desires, and the Red Sox are adamant about not adding length to their offer.

The Orioles are also fading in the race, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

"The Orioles are out of it, unless Teixeira really, really wants to play there," he said. [READ]
