Boston Won't Give Teixeira 10 Years

Boston Herald - The Red Sox badly want to land Mark Teixeira, but the team has made it known that they will not give the first baseman the ten-year deal he covets.

Principal owner John Henry was asked on Tuesday if the team would rule out offering Teixeira a ten-year pact, and he responded as follows:

"Yes. The Red Sox effectively had a 10-year deal with a player determined not to live up to his contract. A lot can change over 10 years, for both sides."

Henry's reference was to the just-completed eight-year, $160 million deal for left fielder Manny Ramirez, which carried with it two option years. [READ]
