Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin tried to check in with free-agent pitcher CC Sabathia on Tuesday about the status of his standing offers.

"I just wanted to touch base," Melvin said. "I haven't heard back from them yet."

Melvin had not made contact with Sabathia's agents since they acknowledged the Brewers' offer, a five-year, $100 million deal, some two weeks ago.

"I don't know," said Melvin. "It's hard to read."
