Report Of Renteria Signing With Giants Incorrect

Mercury News - WFAN in New York erroneously reported earlier on Monday that the Giants signed Edgar Renteria to a two-year, $18 million contract. Giants' officials tell the San Jose Mercury News that the report is false, and Renteria’s agent also denied it to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

That doesn’t mean the two sides aren’t close to an agreement, though. The Giants consider Renteria a fallback option to Rafael Furcal, who wants a four-year deal. [READ]
