Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka came close to earning a $300,000 bonus for a third-place finish in the AL Cy Young voting.

Instead, Matsuzaka was fourth, behind Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, and Francisco Rodriguez.

Had Matsuzaka won the Cy Young this year or finished among the top three in the voting last year and this year, he would have received a $2 million bump in salary for next year and 2010.
