Oakland GM Billy Beane refused to comment on the possibilty that he could bring Jason Giambi back but took the first logical step to do so by rehiring Bobby Alejo as the team's strength coach. Alejo, who worked for the A's from 1993 through 2001, accompanied Giambi from Oakland to the Bronx for the 2002 season. "But I will say this: If all it took to lure free agents was to hire strength coaches, I'd have a lot of strength coaches. If that was the currency that brought players in, I'd go hire them right and left," Beane said.
