The Philadelphia Phillies apparently have found Ed Wade's replacement. According to a report on the Philadelphia Inquirer's web site, the Phillies will name Pat Gillick, who led the Toronto Blue Jays to back-to-back World Series titles in 1992-93, their general manager Wednesday. Philadelphia, which went 88-74 this past season, fired Wade on October 10 after finishing second to Atlanta in the National League East Division for the second straight season and one game behind Houston for the wild card. The Phillies have not made the playoffs since advancing to the World Series in 1993, when they lost to Gillick's Blue Jays. The newspaper said that the 68-year-old Gillick beat out former Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker, Cleveland assistant GM Chris Antonetti and Phillies assistant GMs Ruben Amaro Jr. and Mike Arbuckle for the job. Gillick also has served as GM for the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners.
